Deep in Our Refrigerator

The refrigerator is not a place where dust should collect. However cleaning out the fridge today I found some in the back on the bottom where no one ever goes, dust, and also some hair... Anyway, it reminded me of a poem I read a while ago...

Deep in Our Refrigerator

by Jack Prelutsky

Deep in our refrigerator,
there's a special place
for food that's been around awhile . . .
we keep it, just in case.
“It's probably too old to eat,”
my mother likes to say.
“But I don't think it's old enough
for me to throw away.”

It stays there for a month or more
to ripen in the cold,
and soon we notice fuzzy clumps
of multicolored mold.
The clumps are larger every day,
we notice this as well,
but mostly what we notice
is a certain special smell.

When finally it all becomes
a nasty mass of slime,
my mother takes it out, and says,
“Apparently, it's time.”
She dumps it in the garbage can,
though not without regret,
then fills the space with other food
that's not so ancient yet

Christmas presents...

Well the home show is finally over. Actually it's been over for over a week now. We baked a million cookies. We've finally been able to enjoy some Christmas festivities of our own. We're going to bake a million more cookies too. I love Christmas cookies.
We got our tree too. And you have to admit it's pretty awesome...

That's a terrible picture. You're going to have to trust me on this one. It's the best tree.

Here are the clothes pin dolls I've been working on for the past four days. Christmas presents for my littlest sister...

I'm so excited!

At some point this winter there will come a time when I will have nothing to do. A week maybe two. Where I well have the time to blog every day and absolutely nothing to blog about. It will probably occur in the weeks following the Holidays. Aaah, the long weeks of winter when the world seems to go into hibernation. I can't wait.
Any ways...want to see what I've been doing all week?

I've been making hats. Yup that's it. All week. For the craft show yesterday.

Goodbye...

Today I am saying goodbye to my teenagerness, (no that's not really a word.) Farewell to nineteen. Today is my last day as a teenager. And such a sad sad day it is. I loved being a teenager, too bad it's all over for me. If I could change things, a bit, I would stay nineteen just another year. I'm sure I'll have gray hair and wrinkles when I wake up tomorrow.
A word of wisdom to all you teenagers in the world who have the good sense to still be a teenager, enjoy it while you can. Stay a teenager as long as you can.

Anyway I don't have enough time to wallow. I have to go get ready for the craft show tomorrow. :P Happy birthday me.

Dear blog,

Poor, sad, neglected blog. I'm so sorry I've forgotten about you. Sorry I was dragged away in the busyness of life and left you here to fend for yourself.

I'm back now, and I'm here to say I had good reason to neglect you for so long. A few actually.

First and foremost, I had my sisters wedding to go to, which meant regular shopping trips to Lincoln till we found brides maid outfits for me and two of my sister. Then I had hundreds of cupcakes to bake for said wedding. Every thing went wonderfully and I promise pictures as soon as I get them myself. Love you Jenny! So glad I got to help out.

Now I know that doesn't exactly explain for the past two months. It's a start though. Right?

o.K. then on top of that I've also taken a cake decorating class, gotten my garden ready for winter, learned how to make puff pastry and sweet potato pie, learned how not to make vanilla cupcakes rise, traded our weekly farmers markets in for craft shows, made dozens of hats for the craft shows, and actually picked my paintbrushes back up. I'm hoping I'll have something to show at our home show in December. We shall see about that last part won't we.

Sunday Outing...

Yesterday Concordia University held their final showing of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night at the Seward band shell. I was able to go with three of my sisters. The good people of Concordia's Theater put on a great show. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera and have no proof for you that I was actually there. Isn't that just like me?
Now I can't wait till November when they're doing 'The Pirates of Penzance'.

Fact: I made cookies...

Peanut butter cookies. And the I put chocolate chips in them. Why? Because I wanted to feel like a genius...

...It worked!

When was the last time you swiped you finger through the cookie dough, and then grinned really big because it made you feel like a little kid again. Go ahead, try it.

Oh, yeah, because there's not enough sugar in the babies already you have to roll them in more sugar before you can cook them.

Don't forget to spuish them with a fork, it's the peanut butter signature.

Yum! Apologies for the terrible pictures. I blame it on the lighting.

If you need a recipe this is the one I used 'here'

Cookies!

My sister make the best chocolate chip cookies. I know every body thinks they have found the best ones, or they're still looking. But, these are seriously the best.

The only thing you have to decide is, do you like yours krispy or gooey?

Slightly adapted from 'Betty Crocker's Best of Baking'

1\2 cup granulated sugar
1\2 cup packed brown sugar
1\3 cup butter, softened
1\3 cup shortening
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1\2 heaping cups all-purpose-flour
1\2 teaspoon baking soda
1\2 teaspoon salt
6 ounces chocolate chips

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix sugars, margarine, shortening, egg and vanilla. Stir in remaining ingredients. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 4 minutes turn and bake for f4 more minutes (we like ours gooey.) Cool slightly before removing from cookie sheet. Cool on flat clean surface.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm in need of some icy cold fresh milk. :D

Movie time...

I just finished watching Cinderella with my four year old sister. She brought it to me and asked me to watch it with her. You know the ooooolllldd Disney version. The "timeless classic" I guess it is. We have the old VHS too, no Blue Ray HD whatever. Good old fuzzy VHS that doesn't get scratched when you leave it sit on the shelf out of it's case.
I remember watching Cinderella when I was a little girl with my sister. It was never my favorite but I still remember watching it. And I didn't really want to watch it tonight either but it was totally worth it to see my little sister's reactions. Especially at the end when the glass slipper gets broken and Cinderella pulls the other one out of her pocket, my sister clapped her hands together and yelled "It is hers!" :) Timeless.

Gardening...

Today I decided to get up early and weed my garden. What! Yes I weeded. My sadly neglected garden, looked more like a jungle really than a garden. I've been so busy lately, its been hard to find time to do a lot out side when it's not raining or too hot (my garden is full sun.) I got half of it done, though I would have liked to work on it longer it was time to milk.
As I was pulling the weeds up I noticed these tiny green spiders all over the place! Unfortunately I couldn't get the camera to focus on them so none of the pictures turned out. However I was able to look it up and I'm pretty sure this is what they are...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enoplognatha_ovata

Here's my garden...

Why is there a bed in my garden?

Because it's going to look really cool when the Thunbergia I planted starts climbing on it, that's why.

Boo!

I got a kitty!

Some one was giving them away at the farmers market on Saturday. So I talked my mom into letting me get one. He's not very photogenic...

But he does have glowy green eyes.

We've named him Boo.

My sister has these coming in from the garden...

So I made this...

Yummy!

Greetings!

Hello everybody! I've decided to give blogging a try, just because I want to share my business with you. Guess I should start bye introducing my self, (even though I already did that in my profile.)
I'm Rebekah. I'm 19, I'm the third oldest of ten awesome children. I own a car and do not have my license yet. It is important that you know this. Don't ask me why, I don't know.
I moved from St. Louise MO, about six years ago, to a teeny tiny town in south east Nebraska. We actually live right outside the town on a six acre piece of land, we like to call LOMAH Acres (which stands for Land Of Milk And Honey.) We raise dairy goats. My mom makes goat milk soap which we sell at four farmer's markets in the summer and various craft shows in the fall and winter.
O.k. that's all for the first post. Goodnight!
